As of March 26, 2010 Joliet Technologies is no longer representing the Avtron line of products.

We do however represent the Dynapar line of Rotary Feedback Products.

Motor Adapter Kits

Most motors use one of three mounting configurations for encoders:

  • NEMA 56C 4.5″ Face or Foot Mount
  • 8.5″ Modular FC Flange Face Mount (A.K.A. = 8.5″ Accessory Flange)
  • Shaft Mount

Avtron manufactures encoders for all three of these configurations. However, some older motors and large frame AC and DC motors may not have standard encoder mounts.

In those cases, we offer adapter kits so one of the above styles may be used to simplify the installation. Some large frame DC motors may be supplied with 12.5″ to 8.5″ adapter flanges.  Avtron makes a 12.5″ to 8.5″ adapter flange B23688 to make it easy to mount an M285.

Some Reliance Electric motors have a 4.5″ or 6.75″ flange. Avtron makes adapter flanges for these motors. The 4.5″ flange adapter is our B24049 and the 6.75″ adapter is our B24221. Call us if you are not sure which to use. An M3 Universal Encoder may be better solution on these motors if Mill-Duty specifications are acceptable.

Contact us if you have special installation requirements. Chances are we have already made an adapter kit for your motor. We may also offer a shaft tach solution.

Standard and Custom Stub Shaft Kits for Hollow Shaft-Mount Encoders

Avtron has many different styles of stub shaft kits for our M3 Universal Encoder, M585 Heavy, Mill-Duty (HMD) SHAFTach (TM), and M685 Heavy, Severe-Duty encoders. The M3 Universal Encoder can accept a shaft size of 5/8″ to 2 3/8″ (16mm – 60mm) to match the installation requirements of your application. If you need a shaft to mount your encoder, we can select one from our list of standard units, or design and build one to suit. Our shafts are machined in house and sent out for plating to protect them from environmental effects.

We typically design our shafts so they take advantage of the outside diameter of the existing motor shaft where the machined surface is true and yields the least runout. We do not have to worry about the end of the shaft being flat and true to meet the installation requirements of the encoder. If you have a need for a stub shaft, let us know. We can provide you with a part that is second to none!

Shaft Grounding Kits

Avtron manufactures shaft grounding brushes for most of our encoder products. A shaft grounding brush is used to shunt motor shaft currents away from the non-drive end motor bearing which is the smaller of the two motor bearings and thus more susceptible to arcing damage when shaft currents seek ground through the bearing. The shaft grounding brush is installed on the encoder and provides a grounding lug for connection to earth ground. The brush itself rides on the radial side of the motor shaft or an extension provided by Avtron for the encoder being used. To select the shaft grounding brush information for the encoder you are using go to the Sales Literature Page or contact us for assistance.
