Rinker FEC Quarry
1000Hp Retro-Fit at Rinker Materials – Miami, Florida

Joliet Technologies is pleased to announce another successful retrofit in the Quarry/Mining Industry. Rinker Material in Miami Florida contacted Joliet Technologies only days prior to the retro-fit.

Rinker needed to replace their existing analog system. The 1000Hp De-Watering system was becoming more and more unreliable. Joliet Technologies recommended the Siemens SIMOREG 6RA70 DC Master Digital Variable Speed Drive. This dc drive unit will provide Rinker with many years of reliable service.

Since Joliet Technologies’ engineers would not be able to visit the site prior to the retro-fit, Rinker provided the existing drawings of their old analog, OEM (Oilfield Electric Marine) system. Along with digital pictures and cabinet measurements provided by Rinker, Joliet Technologies determined the best path to take to accomplish the time sensitive retro-fit. Rinker needed the installation and commissioning of the new system to be completed in 2 days or less, during their scheduled down time.

We shipped the Siemens 6RA70 Drive along with our gang box of tools to Rinker FEC quarry in N.W. Miami. Joliet Technologies service engineers (Bob Meade & Greg Thornton) arrived at Rinker on Sunday morning. Our engineers were able to decide how to dismantle the old drive and set up a layout for the installation of the new drive in the same cabinet where the old one had been.

First, they removed the old heatsink assembly, field rectifiers and cabling to and from the old motherboard to make room for the new drive. Second, they mounted the new Siemens DC Drive, tied back into the main AC lines, reconnected the DC motor’s armature, field and blower circuits. Then wired into the existing control circuit. Once all these tasks were complete, they were ready for an early Monday morning commissioning of the new digital dc drive system.

On Monday morning they began the process of debugging the system. After all pre-power tests passed. They continued the commissioning process by utilizing the self-tuning features of the new Siemens 6RA70 digital drive. Finally they brought the system back on line and set parameters up to meet Rinker’s specifications. We applaud the efforts of Rinker Materials, for the help and courtesy they extended to us on this project.
